Koontz-Bryant Participates in Homearama 2017

By Greg Koontz, PE, President, Koontz-Bryant, P.C.

When finished, it always looks so straight forward, 10 homes ready for showing at one time and in one place for one of the largest annual events for Richmond homebuilders. The 2017 Homearama just finished up last weekend and this year featured 10 different builders showing off the hottest trends and newest innovations.

Once the decision was made by the developer of Newmarket Estates to host the Homearama last year, the preparation work began in earnest last fall. Newmarket Estates is approximately a 400 unit development in the western portion of Chesterfield County. Last fall there were two sections under construction at Newmarket and multiple additional sections of the development were identified as needed to accommodate the 10,000-12,000 people anticipated to attend the event with a very short time period left to get the work done. It was a true team effort getting the development needed for this event to be a success underway and completed in 10 months.

Construction plans were prepared by Koontz-Bryant and submitted to Chesterfield County for review and approval. Understanding the economic importance of this event, Chesterfield County staff accommodated several meetings to allow for the specific design coordination necessary to approve the development of multiple sections at one time. Approvals were obtained at the end of last year and construction was underway. Project Manager Ric Rolland with Landtell and the site contractor Kelley Shively were blessed with good weather over the winter allowing sitework to proceed at a faster than normal pace.
10 fantastic homes were being constructed and finished, while main entrances and landscaping were completed to add the finishing touches.

Home prices at the show ranged from $550,000 upwards to $750,000.

This year’s builders were:
  • Biringer Builders
  • Covenant Building & Design
  • CraftMaster Homes
  • LeGault Homes
  • LifeStyle Home Builders
  • Perkinson Homes
  • Ray A. Williams Custom Homes
  • River City Custom Homes
  • South River Custom Homes
  • TimberCreek Building & Design

Homearama is an annual event hosted by the Home Builders Associate of Richmond. This year’s main sponsor was CapCenter a mortgage company based in Henrico County and ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation was the charity partner for the event.

It takes a lot of work and coordination between the developer, the site development team, builders and designers, HBAR and sponsors to create such a great atmosphere. Koontz-Bryant was honored to be part of the team – congratulations to everyone involved.
